What doesn't strike you at the time...

I have been a "Prodigal Son" in every respect but my heart was hardened, as the Scripture says, one day on the beach - Ocean Beach to be exact - I was "in a state of unrighteous" and just watching the sun slide into the ocean, when a "bag lady" stood right in front of me, she pointed her finger at me and said "Gordon, God has a plan for your life" - she called me by name! Told me God had a plan for me... I went on about my "sin" life. Years later, years later... I am living in Salt Lake City, married with a 4 year old daughter, I'm unemployed, making lunch for my daughter (who was playing with the 4 year old across the street) When she comes home crying, I ask her why, she says she is sad because she can't play with her friend anymore, I ask her why. She says because she slipped into the canal and drowned. I told her to stay in the house and ran across the street, I checked the house first - I know the family - but no sound from the house - I run and jump over the fence and start running down the canal bank - I see the girl floating face down in the water - I run faster to get ahead of her. I dive into the water and get her. I get her and me up onto the bank and start CPR. This girl is 4 and I can't get her jaw open. I try and try, I know she is dying and the harder I try, she resists. One silent and quick prayer "Father, open her mouth" her jaw drops... I'm screaming "MEDIC" at the top of my lungs, now she's ready, I breathe into her and she throws up all the water, I breathe again, and her heart starts beating. We start weeping, kneeling there soaking wet, holding each other. The house I was behind happened to be that of a retired Marine - he heard me screaming for a medic and called fire rescue - they show up and bundle her up and take her to the hospital - scan and check her - NO water in her lungs - NONE!! She was dead, drowned! But no water in her lungs.
Afterwards her mom and dad come by to thank me - said she was fine no damage - the mom asked her what did she think as she was drowning - the child said, "I prayed for God's angel to come, when I opened my eyes, I saw Him" - yeah, God has a plan for my life - It took me almost 20 years after that to accept Him as my savior - but I have NEVER forgotten that message - I prayed for an angel - and saw Him... We are ALL His angels - from the best of us to the worst of us. Everyone does His will :)
There that is my story - a long walk - with miles still to go - but at least now I have a Shepard.
